Easy Handheld Drum Sanders
When the floor sander has done its job the rest of the surface gets done by hand with a handheld orbital sander. If the wood is in good condition but the finish is showing its age then the handheld orbital sander is your best bet.

When you proceed to sand by a handheld sander you begin by putting on eye protection and mask approved for sanding of wood. You start off by using course sandpaper - 40 or 60 grit will work. You need to focus on areas of the floor in need of additional sanding. When sanding by hand you follow the grain of the wood. Once any remaining imperfections have been removed you can progress to 80 to 100 grit sandpaper. Depending upon the hardness of the previous finish, this may or may not be time consuming, but figure a few hours per room.

The rolling-pin style Pneumatic Drum Sander is perfect for hand contouring and smoothing projects that are too large to use with a stationary sander. Simply chuck the 3/8" spindle into a portable electric drill, cordless drill or air powered drill for two-handed control. Choose appropriate diameter sizes for getting into tight areas. This is a very handy equipment.
