| A vise or vice is a mechanical equipment which is used to hold or clamp the workpiece, which allows work to be performed on it with the help of various tools.
They usually have one fixed jaw and another parallel jaw, which can be moved towards or away from the fixed jaw with the help of screw. There are many vises such as woodworking vises, metal worker's vises, hand vises, machine vises, table vises etc.
A Clamp is a device which is used to hold the workpiece preventing it from movement or separation due to application of inward pressure. There are two main clamp viz temporary and permanent. Band clamp, Bar clamp, C clamp, Flooring clamp are temporary clamps while Hose clamp, Marman clamp and Wire rope clamp are all permanent clamps. |
